Capacity Building of Local Authorities and SCOs in Guria and Kakheti Regions in Better Addressing the Needs of Socio-economically Disadvantaged Children and Their Families
2020-2023
The project aimed to improve the social functioning of socio-economically vulnerable children and their families living in the Guria region (Ozurgeti municipality) and the Kakheti region (Telavi municipality) by strengthening local child protection structures.
SOS Children’s Villages Georgia partnered with local non-governmental organizations—"the Young Educators’ Association” and “the Kakheti Regional Development Center”.
Over the course of three years, the project served 1,042 children, 149 parents, 473 teachers, and 74 local child protection specialists.
Numerous educational resources were created, including informational videos and brochures on children’s rights and child labor.
To strengthen families in crisis, parents and children participated in trainings on positive parenting and children’s rights, small business management, business plan development, and essential skills for employment. Additionally, they received vocational education and acquired professions through various professional courses.
A total of 129 families participated in the economic empowerment program. 50 families received agricultural grants and expert support to launch startups. The incomes of 53 families increased by more than 20% (with an average growth of 39.5%).
Local child protection specialists enhanced their competencies in assessing the needs of families in crisis and carrying out interventions.
Local municipalities adopted the project’s experience and implemented social programs to support families with children in crisis.
